My Journey — From Construction Sites to Coaching Strength
I’m in my 60s now, and fitness hasn’t always been part of my life. I spent 25 years working in construction before pivoting into Massage Therapy, eventually earning my Cert III and Cert IV in Fitness. It’s been a long road — and one I’m proud to walk every day.
Over the years, I’ve raced everything from 400m sprints to marathons, tackled triathlons and mountain biking, and found joy in hiking Tasmania’s wild trails with my partner Jane, surfing, and walking our dog Enzo. But this lifestyle didn’t come overnight.
My passion for fitness sparked back in high school during cross country. I placed 4th in my first race, chasing down my English teacher — a seriously fit guy — and that moment lit a fire in me. But after school, life took a different turn. Construction work made me strong, but poor habits left me unfit and unhealthy.
It wasn’t until my 30s that I made a decision: no more smoking, no more drinking, and no more excuses. I started eating clean and went for my first run in years. I barely made it from one power pole to the next before gasping for air and walking home. I nearly gave up — but instead, I counted power poles to track my progress. When I hit ten, I was ecstatic. That led me to my first fun run, and soon after, a short triathlon in Shorncliffe. I nearly blacked out on the final run leg — but I finished. And I kept going. That was the beginning.
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing. I’ve battled Chronic Fatigue and Asthma for over 30 years, endured knee and shoulder injuries, broken bones, surgeries, and the chaos of family life. But here’s the truth: you don’t quit. Because you are more.
Check out my class timetable and take the first step today.
Tomorrow will always be there — but nothing changes until you do.
I’d love to help you start your own fitness journey.
